She wanted to see us...

Hola familia!

Well, things are going pretty well here in the Great Tennessee Knoxville Mission! We saw Z. and he said he's been feeling the spirit in our meetings. But, he wouldn't commit to be baptized. He said it's like a battle going on inside his head of what he was taught growing up and what we are teaching him. We feel that he will accept it soon though. We saw S. R. this past week. His sister is a member in Gainsville. She is deaf and she called during one of our lessons. She wanted to see us so we were able to see and speak to her via video phone. It was pretty cool. She seemed really excited that he was meeting with us. He hasn't made it out to church yet because he has back problems. So, we are going to see him tonight and promise him that he will feel well enough to make it to church if that is his desire and he shows his effort to do so. Because he hasn't made it to church yet we are going to change his baptismal date to the 18th of June. Other than that he seems solid Do you remember M. and S.? Well, it turns out that they are married. We stopped by a few days ago and she said we could go back yesterday. So, we went with a member and had a pretty good lesson. We are going to see them on Friday. We had a short FHE with the member who went with us to see them and his family. We committed them to invite someone to the next FHE. On of them said they have a friend who is looking for a church! So, we hope that we can find a new investigator this week. Oh, I don't think I told you but the district meeting trainings this transfer are all on finding. Elder Phippen has asked me to give the training this week. I'm excited! Oh, this past thursday there was a district leader training at the stake center. Elder Phippen and I went and it was really good. Let's see... I think that's about everything for this week. Everything is going great. I love being a missionary! The Church is True!!! I love y'all!!!

Love,

Elder Kreyling

E-mail #21 of 2011 5/23/2011 Week 57

I Served With Your Dad...

Hola familia!
Well, this past week we contacted a referral named S. R.. His sister and bro in law are members. He went to the temple open house and really seemed to like that. He accepted a soft commitment in our first lesson. He came to the church on saturday and we gave him a church tour. We invited him to be baptized on June 11 and he said it's very possible that he will that day. Then he saw a baptism. He said he was coming to church but he didn't show for some reason... We tried stopping by his place but he wasn't there. We are going to try to see him soon. This is our bike week and it's a bit far away. But, we are going to do what we can!
We are still teaching W. and H. the new member lessons. They are still doing great. I guess H. didn't come to church last week because she went to her boyfriend's (Z.'s) church. But, she did it so he would come to the right church yesterday They both showed up and it seemed like the majority of the messages were what he needed to hear. The Elder's quorum president seemed to change the plans when he saw Z.. He called on all of the converts to bear their testimony and conversion story. It was sweet! We are seeing the both of them this friday. We hope things progress with him!
Nothing happened with H.P. this week because of graduation and his Grandfather being in the hospital. But, we should be seeing him the last half of the week
Hey dad I met sister Barrett from your mission. She is the mom of Sister Place who just finished her mission. She was a transfers and she tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I served with your dad". I was a bit confused for a moment then she said, "We both served in the same mission!" So, I was just letting you know that I met her!
Oh, Elder Sexton is one of my Zone Leaders now. We went on an exchange and I was with Elder Sexton for the day
Well, I think that's everything for the week. Have a great week and I love Y'all!!!
Love,
Elder Barry Kreyling

Hola Familia!
Well, as usual this week seemed to fly by. Transfers are this Wednesday and Elder Hedgecock is going home. I'll be staying in Dalton West. I have a pretty good idea of who my next companion will be. Elder Robison, in Dalton East, is training a new missionary. The greenie might be from El Salvador! But, he can't remember for sure haha.
This past Saturday we went to Ringold to help with the destruction from the tornadoes. It is still pretty bad up there. But, we heard from our stake and mission president that we are to stop going up there. Just us missionaries. I believe both wards here will continue going up about once a week or so to help out. When we went we got some yellow shirts that say "Mormon helping hands" on them. They are pretty cool.
We saw A. this past week. He got jumped a little over a week ago. Crazy! He had several injuries on his face and such. He was on some pain killers and so he was a little out of it. We gave him a blessing. He's told us he believes it's true and everything. So, hopefully he gets feeling better soon so we can resume teaching.
This week we visited H.D. and W. E.. They are both doing well. We went to see them with Bro B., whose name is also Barry! Anyways, he is a policeman. So, we got to ride in is police car, which is actully an suv thing. I'm not gonna lie it was pretty sweet haha! We also taught our English class this week. Two members showed up. We are still working on getting our investigators there so hopefully we'll start seeing more people show up.
Well, that's about everything for this week. Oh, I started using the chia seeds. I'll let you know how those are working soon. Thanks for everything. I love y'all!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Looks like Barry has found a new abode-or is it a hurricane shelter?

We were saying "hola" and "buenas tardes"

Hola familia!
Well, it was really great talking with y'all yesterday. I hope y'all get my letter within the next few days. I sent the memory card with it so you can see the pics of the tornado and storm damage. Hey, I like the pic with Darrin and Elder Maxwell. I can't remember if I told you but he was my Zone Leader for a bit. I went on an exchange with him once. He's a cool guy. Well, it's hard to believe that Darrin and the Heaton's are back already. I bet they loved the mission. Doesn't Joe get home in the next couple of weeks too? Elder Matt Condie is also going home in a week and a half. So is Elder Hedgecock. Man, it feels like everyone I know is ending their missions. It's crazy haha!
Well, this past week we found A LOT of hispanics. Most of them live one the same street. Yay! Two of them accepted a baptismal commitment! We are going to see them soon so we'll see how solid they are. One of them is a humble guy named L. We taught him a brief Restoration lesson at his doorstep. He was leaning against the door frame with his left shoulder as we were teaching. When we shook hands with him he stood straight and we saw that he didn't have a left arm. He reminded me of grandpa when I saw that Well, he is a humble guy and he accepted a baptismal commitment for june fourth. We are seeing him this week and we hope that he will progress soon. There were a few others that seem pretty solid. One is A. He is from Guatemala. We talked with his sister or something and she told us we could come back. So, we went back and he answered the door. We asked for the lady and he said she was busy. So, we asked him if he had some time to talk with us. He asked what about and we told him Jesus Christ. He told us that he had some time. We went over Christ's earthly ministry to the Book of Mormon. When we explained the Book of Mormon he said he wanted one. We had one on us so we gave it to him. Then, he told us he will read it without us having to invite him! He seemed pretty legit. We are seeing him tomorrow so I'll let y'all know how it goes. We have taught this guy named Gerardo a couple of times. This last time we talked about the Book of Mormon. We talked about how he can know that it is true by praying and asking God in prayer. He told us that he would like to know that it is true. So, we taught him how to pray real quick and he offered the prayer to end the lesson. In his prayer he asked God to let him know that the Book of Mormon is true or not. He is a cool guy and he wants to know these things. We see him every friday so I'll let you know how our next appointment goes. We also found a hispanic named Manuel. We went to see him yesterday with our ward mission leader. We knocked on the door several times and waited for a few minutes. But, he didn't answer the door. So, we were a bit disappointed. We walked back to the car and as we were about to get in he opened the door! All of us got really excited. We were saying "hola" and "buenas tardes" and we waved to him as we were walking up the stairs. He started greeting us as well and we sat down and had a lesson with him. He just recently got here and he has quite a bit of potential so I'll let you know how things go with him. I think that's about everything for the work this week.
Thanks for the package and everything. Wow, Ben is getting married. Look at him go! Haha Hey! I'm not sure if I've told you yet but there is a Pupuseria that has just opened up! Elder Hedgecock and I want to go check it out soon. I'll let y'all know how it is! Well, I think that's everything for this week. The Church is True! I love y'all!
Love,
Elder Barry Kreyling

Hand Written Letter to Mom 4/25/2011

Dear Mom,
Hey! Sorry it's been a while. My companion only likes playing sports & stuff on p-day. So, I usually don't have much time to write letters. This will be my last transfer with him so hopefully you'll be seeing more letters soon! Well when I first got here the apartment was a bit gross. Nothing too bad. But, I've learned that keeping things clean is important for inviting the spirit. So, I bought some stuff & I said, "Elder, we are going to clean on p-day." So, we did & now it looks much better. It's still not exactly how I would like it but that will change soon. But, thanks for teaching me how to clean even though I never really wanted to learn haha : ) So, there are some members from El Salvador in the ward here. I miss your food and papusas so I'm trying to see if they can make some for us before my comp leaves. Wish me luck! : ) Well everything is going great here. I hope things are well back home. Thanks for everything Mom! : ) I love ya! Love, Elder Kreyling

Severe Weather and Tornadoes

With the severe weather and tornadoes that have gone through the southeast we thought we would give you an update. We have heard through several sources that all the missionaries from Barry's mission have been accounted for and are fine. We thank all who have prayed for Barry, the missionaries and the people in those areas that have been affected. Our continued prayers go out in behalf of the people who have suffered any kind of loss. May they receive comfort in these difficult times.

She is GOLDEN!

Hola familia!

This week we picked up a new investigator named H. and she is being baptized on Thursday the 28th. She is GOLDEN! She went to the Atlanta Temple open house with her mom, aunt, and uncle. She said she wanted to get into the baptismal font when she saw it! Amazing! We are having a lesson with her tonight and wednesday. We are having the baptism then so she can make it to the Temple Dedication.
We have been teaching W.E. the new member lessons. We have taught the first three lessons and some of the commandments. He is still solid and doing great. He has received the Aaronic Priesthood!
We are trying to get things moving in the spanish work. In an effort to do so we are going to start a free English class where we and some members will be teaching English to hispanics; members and non members. It's pretty exciting to think about and we hope that success will come from it.
Well, those are the highlights of this past week. This week is our bike week! I'm going to try to get a picture of me on by bike for y'all. Oh, did y'all get my letter? One is for Darrin and one is for you. Easter is coming up and I'll be able to call y'all! That's crazy it doesn't feel like it's been that long since Christmas. Hey so in an attempt to get lost in the work I've forgotten everyone's birthdays haha. So, I asked Janice to send me a list of family birthdays. These are all late but happy birthday Mom. Happy Birthday dad. Happy Birthday Kaylee. The church is true and it is so awesome! I love y'all!!!
Love,
Elder Kreyling

I'm not gonna lie it was pretty rough
Hola Familia!

What?! Chase is coming here for his mission?! Woo hoo!!! That's so cool. So, he'll probably be getting here just a bit after President Griffin finishes his mission then. Wow. Anyways, I have a letter written for Darrin but I haven't been able to find his address yet. I know y'all sent it to me. I couldn't remember if you sent it in a letter or by email. I looked through the emails and didn't find it. So, I'll look through my letters when we get back to the apartment. If I can't find it I'll just have to send it to y'all and have y'all forward it. That's only if I can't find it. Well, this past week went well. We found a less active lady from Florida. She moved here a while ago but hasn't been going to church. So, we found her tracting and she has a granddaughter that lives in the same apartment building as she does. So, hopefully we can start teaching her soon! Also, we taught this guy named A. He is english but he has a friend in the spanish ward. He has done stuff with us on a couple of p days and he seems pretty cool. Anyways, the first lesson was about a week and a half ago. I'm not gonna lie it was pretty rough haha. Before we started the lesson we were waiting for the members to get there. We were talking about school and stuff, just a casual conversation. He was talkative and everything. Then, the members got there and we said a prayer and it was just like he shut down. He wouldn't talk to us hardly. We would ask him questions and he would say sure or I guess. Then, one of the members spoke and lightened things up and it was a bit better from there. Then, we taught him this past thursday and it was quite a bit better! He was more like his usual self. Right now we are still one principle one of lesson one with him. We are trying to help him understand that God is our Loving Heavenly Father. He committed to pray about it and he came to church yesterday! So, things are going well for him right now. Yesterday, we had a family home evening thing for the spanish ward. They had us get up there and do some roleplays to show them some ways they can invite family, friends and neighbors to meet with us and take the lessons. It was fun! Then, we had some good good food after Let's see... I think that's everything for this week. Oh, thanks y'all for the package! And tell Kimberly Monroy and Jamie Brown thanks for the letters! I love y'all!!!

Love,
Elder Kreyling

Jesus Christ knows we are Christians

Hola Familia,

This past week has been an adventure! Well, everyday is an adventure but anyways... Below I told you a bit about J.W.. She is a really great lady. We had a return appointment with her a couple days ago. We were walking through the apartment building and we walked downstairs where she lives. As we got to the bottom of the stairs we heard someone call "young men!" a few times. So, I walked back and looked up and there was this guy and he asked if we were Mormons. I replied yes. He told me we need to leave the property or he's calling the cops on us. I asked him on what grounds and he replied trespassing. I told him that J. had invited us back and that we were going to see her. He said the same thing. He called us an evil cult and non Christians. I tried not getting angry and I tried to remain humble. I testified to him that we are Christians and he repeated that we aren't and we are a cult. I really didn't want to deal with someone like him. So, I told him "We are going to our appointment and Jesus Christ knows that we are Christians. Have a nice day." Then, we just walked off to see J. We sat outside with J. and we saw a cop driving towards us haha. We thought he was coming to talk with us but he just went away. Even though all that happened we had a good talk with J.. I really hope that she progresses. She is so cool haha! Someone else that we found is this guy named C. We shared the Restoration with him and had a prayer before sharing the first vision. We asked him how he felt. He said he felt good. We read a couple of scriptures describing the Spirit. We asked if he felt the spirit and he said yes. We asked if he believe what we shared is true. He said , "Oh I know it's true." We ended up committing him for baptism! His date is for the seventh of may. We would have set it for the 30th of April but that's when the Atlanta Temple is being rededicated. By the way they are having an open house so you should tell Jule and Koni that the should go! Anyways, C. is a cool guy also. He told us that he somehow knew the guys from Lynard Skynard pretty well. He said he used to go to their concerts often and play pool with them and stuff. He has a pretty intense story like J. too. They are both really cool and I'll let y'all know how they progress. Well, that's all I can think of for last week. This week is bike week for us. So, I'll be getting some good workouts haha. But, I hope y'all have a great week! The church is true! I love y'all!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Love,

Elder Barry Kreyling

E-mail #14 of 2011 4/4/2011 Week 50

We offered to give her a blessing

Hola Familia!
This week we had Chad Lewis come to the mission. He used to be a pro football player but now is a motivational speaker. I felt really inspired to keep working from what he shared with us. This past week we saw L. and taught her a bit. She wasn't feeling well so we offered to give her a blessing and she accepted. Towards the end of the lesson she seemed to be a bit more lively and she said she felt a bit better. We taught a part member family in the spanish ward. His name is A. and we went over a bit of the restoration and he accepted a soft baptismal commitment. We are trying to set up teaching appointments with this member and her family. They are from El Salvador! I think they are going to be living with her for four months. So, we are going to try to get in there to start teaching so they can get baptized ASAP. We saw M. finally haha. She still wants to meet with us and everything but we still have some work to do with her. That's basically all for the work this week. Now I'll just say some fun stuff haha. So, I already told y'all that I bought a cheap blender a while ago. This past week I made a smoothie that tasted exactly like the Mango Mango smoothie from the Orange Peel. It's my favorite smoothie from there so that was pretty exciting haha We had an apartment inspection this week... We passed!!! Oh, after going through your letter I guess that would be fine for you to send some money on my card. The only problem is that I have two cards so I'm not sure which one it is that I would be using and if it's checking or debit or whatever. The other thing is that I haven't used my cards at all on the mission so I've forgotten my pin numbers for them haha So, I guess you could either send that info in a written letter or just send cash. I'm not sure though haha. But, anyways the work is going well and everything is fine. Oh yeah! I almost forgot. The entire district will be the same next transfer so Elder Hedgecock and I are both staying for this next transfer. This will be his last so I will be his last comp. But, I think that's everything for this week. I love y'all!!!
Love,
Elder Barry Kreyling

Now for the questions of the week to share with the world……..

Q. Como estuvo la conferencia? (How was conference?)
A. Bien. I liked all of what was said... But, especially that advice about finding a wife soon after the mission. Hehe

Q. Alguna experiencia espiritual esta semana y por qué? (Any spiritual experience this week and why?)
A. Si. Chad Lewis jugaba al futbol americano (professional) y ahora es un motivational speaker. El vino para darnos un motivational speak. (Yes, Chad Lewis played professional football and is now a motivational speaker. He came and gave us a motivational talk.) He served a mission in Taiwan I think it was. He gave us a great message of inspiration and motivation.

Q. Encontraron nuevos investigadores esta semana? (Did you find any new investigators this week?)

(Did you send me the memory card with the pictures from your camera?)
A. No

Q. Le escribiste (Did you write...) a Darrin y a Joe Warburton? They will be home soon you know. As a matter of fact, Darrin comes home on 5/4/11 & his talk is set up for May 8th-mother’s day.
A. I've started a letter to him and I'll send it as soon as I'm done.

Q. Como están (How are...) M, C, L y M/A y S and M?
A. M. dropped us. We are still working with M. but she is going to be moving soon. She might stay in our area and she might move to Chattsworth which is the sister's area in our district. We still haven't met with C. Elder Hedgecock thinks it's because of him they don't want to meet with us or V., C.'s bro, doesn't think he's ready. They are going to be moving to Dalton East's area soon so Elder Hedgecock doesn't really want to try teaching them anymore. It's kinda frustrating. L. is doing ok. The only thing is that we are still on principle one which is God is our Loving Heavenly Father. We have taught other things but right now we are mostly trying to help her understand that God is her Heavenly Father. I don't know if I typed it wrong last time but I think you mean A.. We haven't been able to meet with her in a while either. We weren't able to meet with S. and M. but we should be seeing them sometime this week.

Week 13 of 2011 E-mail 3/28/2011 Week 49

I was with the only girl yikes!
Hola Familia!

This past week has been good. The Elders in the Dalton East area had three baptisms this weekend! They were all spanish. Both the east and west (our area) have a lot of spanish. But, there is still a pretty noticeable difference between the amount in our area and theirs. Our area has more wealthy people and their area is not so wealthy. So, it's interesting how big of a difference there can be from one side of town to the other. But anyways, this past week we found a good number of new investigators. The ones that stand out right now are the two we found yesterday. We were tracting and we knocked on the door and a young lady came and we introduced ourselves and told her why we were there. There was another man there and she invited us in. They had their Bible on the table and they told us they had been studying. After talking for a min Elder Hedgecock started talking about the way back to heaven. The man (Solomon) asked what we believed the way was. We told him Jesus Christ is. It turns out that was the part they were reading in the bible where Jesus Christ says that he is the way. That was pretty cool! Then, we shared with them the last verse in 2 Nephi 31 to show that the Bible and the Book of Mormon testify of the same things. We ended up getting a return appointment this coming saturday with them. Their names are S. and M.. They seem pretty cool. I'll let ya know how it goes with them next week. We also went with Obispo Torres to see L. who is the Daughter of a member who was baptized around a year ago. We had quite a long lesson with her but it turned out pretty good. She says she's not sure about the whole being baptized thing right now. But, at the end of the lesson she was saying stuff like I feel better and I feel good. Stuff like that. After church yesterday we had dinner with O. G. (He's from El Salvador!) Then, we ran into this guy who was atheist/anti mormon. He was pretty lame haha. Then, we found S. and M. After that we went back to the church. The spanish ward had a missionary prep class and asked us to help with it. So, we paired up with some of the youth. I was with the only girl yikes! It seemed so weird haha! But, we did some roleplays teaching the Restoration in front of everybody. It was good. It was kinda funny though because the girl I was with had one of those fake babies for a class in school. During our roleplay the baby got a dirty diaper and so she had to leave. So, I was all alone for the last couple of minutes of our roleplay. I like roleplays so it was fine haha. But, I that's all this week. I love y'all!!!

Love,
Elder Kreyling

Q. Como estas de salud?
(How is your health?)

A. Bien. (good) I was sick at the beginning of last week but I'm better now See? Haha.

A. No, sorry. I'll try getting that to y'all soon.

Q. Cómo va la obra en tu área? (How is the work going in your area?)

A. Bien. (Good)

Q. Alguna experiencia espiritual esta semana y por qué? (Any spiritual experiences this week? Why?)

Q. Himno favorito esta semana? El mío es # 221 Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd. ( Favorite Hymn of the week? Mine is...)

A. Did you think to pray

Q. Obtuviste una licencia de Dalton para visitar en la cárcel? (Did you get a Dalton Drivers license so you can visit the jail?)

A. No

Q. Como está la investigadora M.? Algún progreso con ella? (How is M. doing? Any progress with her?)

A. We haven't been able to meet with her recently. We are going to see her tonight though.

Q. Como están M. y L.? (How are M. and L.?)

A. M. nos dejo (she dropped us). L. esta bien y vamos a trabajar mas con ella. (L. is good and we are going to work more with her.)

Q. Como está C.? (How is C.?)

A. We haven't been able to see him either. They canceled our appointment for some reason. But, as far as we know he's still doing good.

Q. Did you send us a letter where u were gonna tell us about your talk w/ d pres about ur uncle Jule?

A. Not yet. Elder Hedgecock doesn't like writing letters on p day so I'll have to find time throughout the week to write y'all.

Q. Todavía tienes los zapatos? (Do you still have the shoes?)

A. Si. (Yes)

This is Barry's Testimony he wants to share with the world.

I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ's true church. I know that Joseph Smith is his Prophet and that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live and they love us all. They invite all of us to come unto them through this restored Gospel and Church. I know that God has revealed these truths to me and I cannot deny it. This I leave with you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
